♪ How should I use the CD?

Give the book and CD to each student, and give them assignment to practice reading with the same speed and rhythm as the CD. Students can get the teacher's signature and move on to another book when they read well in front of the class. Once they are done with the chart (for 3 levels), they will attach new chart on top. Their goal will be to read 128books.

(Some classes lend the books out like libraries do and manage them by filling out the date, name, and due date on a book card)

>> Check the Springboard from here

LWrite the level the student is going to challenge. Sign (or write the date) below the alphabets a-h when the student reads it well. Also a good idea to stick a sticker! (a-h indicated each books included in Springboard. There are 8 books, a-h, in each level)

Mr. Matthew de Wilde introduced this chart at Apricot Plaza 2009. We received good reviews from teachers who used this chart in their classes. Please try it out in you class, too.

What is Springboard?

Springboard is a literacy program used in elementary in Australia. Level 1 is for 5 years old (first graders) for local children. Students can enjoy the story as they think about the scheme of the sentences and the phonics. Each story, whether fiction or non-fiction, concludes as single story. This is to give children sense of accomplishment, and to introduce them to different world of language.

How teachers are using it.

▶ I take the first 15minutes of the class for reading. Students ignore the vocabularies they don't know and keep on reading. They get used to reading, and now my 5th grader can finish Level 5 book in 15minutes. (Teacher N from Osaka)

▶ I use it as a textbook. Students take time when they find vocabularies they don't know. Springboard is a picture book, so it is easy for me to recommend parents to purchase one for home. My student working on Level 5 is going to challenge STEP 4th grade. (Teacher K from Aichi)
